For those of you that are familiar with Nirvana's remake of "The Man Who Sold The World": The guitar part in the beginning is similar to one from another song in the 90's. It was an alt rock band and was on the radio a good amount. Some bands that popped into my head: Better Than Ezra, Candlebox, or other equally popular bands. I swear I know it, but the name/band name is just glued the tip of tongue. Looking for something previously posted here about 9-12 months ago (maybe longer). Did the searcharoo, came up with nada.
It concerned a John Lennon quote, pretty much along the lines of "Smart women didn't exist till Yoko came along", which seemed kinda mean towards every other female ever in his life! The original poster had seen it at some art galery/exhibition.
Its not important to find the actual post, all I really want is the exact quote from Lennon -any ideas? |

90's Kids News Show
Ok, I was watching the Simpsons episode where Lisa and Bart are on a Kids News show and it got me to remembering an actual kids news show from my childhood. It's very possible that this show was a pacific northwest or washington local show. I remember that the intro showed kids doing all the production work on the news show and a vaguely remember there being an animated creature (blue perhaps?) that was around from time to time. I'm not sure if they ever actually did any news reporting but that was the general concept. Anyone know? (also, it's not Nick News but while googling I discovered that Nick News is still on and was astonished) |

Movie
Years ago I saw this movie about robots (possibly late 80's through 90's). The main character goes to this location/resort where robots cater to people's [sexual] desires. "Clients" are dying within the [resort] and thus our main character steps in to investigate. In the end the main character fights a man that escaped from [prison?]. The [villain] is trying to download other [prison mates] into the bodies of blank robots. Main character saves the day and ends up getting the chick (from what I can remember he looks Jean-Claude Van Damme-esq or could possibly be him). I could possibly be wrong about the plot of the movie since it was long ago but I do know it is not: -Westworld -Logan's Run -Blade Runner -Futureworld -Screamers I tried googling all robot/cyborg-themed movies along with asking ![[info]](http://l-stat.livejournal.com/img/community.gif) ask_me_anything . I've been through all the different movie trailers possible but yet none look like the one I'm searching for. Help me remember? |

Scene with echoing
On my way home from work today, the song, "I'm Wishing" from Snow White came on, and it reminded me of something, I believe a scene from an animated children's movie or television show. All I remember was a scene where a character was trapped somewhere, and his/her voice echoed, so he/she believed that someone else was trapped there well. There was a song where the character was singing about being trapped down there and wanting help. The only line from the song I remember, even vaguely, was when the character sang, "Help me," and the voice echoed back in time with the beat. Please help me! This is driving me crazy. |

so, there was this website which was parodies of book covers, I think mostly fantasy and sci-fi books. Japanese subtitles
Does anyone know a good place to get Japanese subtitle files for Japanese films etc? The DVDs I own with Japanese audio only seem to have English or Chinese subtitles. (I find old Japanese men really hard to understand without subs but don't want to use English ones!) |

Hi everyone! I'm revising for a Japanese exam I've got in the next couple of weeks (second year of university), and I was wondering if anyone could help me with a grammar point. I've just been revising ~に対して and ～に対する。 The next point on my list is ～がAのに対して。 Unfortunately though I can't find my notes on this specific point, and I searched a bit online and couldn't find anything about it... if anyone could explain it for me, like how it is used in sentences and what it means, how it differs from に対する, etc, I would be really grateful. :D Thank you! ♥ |

studying overseas
I'm currently in South Korea teaching English for a year and am thinking about what to do when I am finished. One thing I've been thinking about is studying Japanese abroad in Japan. I've studied some Japanese in college and took the level 4 proficiency test, but I don't have the opportunity to study Japanese much more beyond that in my hometown and I am looking for some sort of immersion program. Thus, studying in Japan. I am looking for something that's about a semester long, hopefully in September as my contract in Korea ends at that time. I'm looking to spend about 5-8k, not including airfare to Japan, as I get free airfare out of Korea. I'm beginner intermediate level, I guess, and before I left for Korea I was just beyond Genki 2 and working my way through Chukyu no Nihongo. The killer is that I'm a college grad and need a program that starts sometime soon after my finish date in Korea. I DO have a friend who's currently in Japan right now that I could stay with for a week or so, but that's not super ideal and I don't want to impose on her. Anyway, are there any programs you guys would recommend I look into? Also, would there be any opportunities to get some sort of scholarship or discount since I've taken 4kyuu? (I wouldn't expect a BIG scholarship since 4kyuu isn't that big of a deal, but at least something would be nice.) Anyway, thanks a lot! Current Mood:  cold |

Cross posted. I was in Westport, Ct the other day and there was this shop that had these prints of mermaids (looked like watercolor) and they were in all different poses. There was a pregnant one, a fat one, one holding a baby, a couple... you get me. Each one had a little story attached to the back. Oh, and in most of them only the mermaid itself was colored, no background. Any idea who this artist is? I'm pretty sure he's not local. Also, I'm pretty sure it was a rather simple name. |

There was this art piece, it was a vicious-looking taxidermy wolf with long long long white and sparkly hair extensions. It was standing on a short cylinder and the hair fell over it and onto the floor. Does anybody know what I'm talking about/who it was by?
